Mark Harris Book Launch ‘Glass & Water’ – Sat 30th July 2016
July 21, 2016On Saturday 30th July 2016, Mark Harris will be at the National Diving & Activity Centre (NDAC) between 3pm and 4pm to sign copies of his recently released book, ‘Glass and Water‘.
Glass and Water is a book that covers the essential techniques needed for underwater photography while freediving.
Mark is no stranger to the NDAC, as it was his primary training facility (with Saltfree freediving) during his years as UK freediving champion. Many images within the book were taken at the NDAC.
This book signing is part of the British Freediving Association member’s day being held at the site. It will include a freedive safety demo (by Liv Philip), a BBQ, camping and yoga (with Rebecca Coales). And of course for qualified divers, some time on the Saltfree Divers platform and NDAC attractions.
For anyone wishing to purchase a signed copy, Mark will be supplying these at a price of £15 (cash only accepted), but will also be happy to sign copies for those who have purchased elsewhere.

Scuba Diving around & under the Saltfree Pontoon
April 20, 2016As a reminder for scuba divers – please could you avoid the area around & underneath the Saltfree Divers pontoon when their A flag is flying and they are freediving.
In particular we also request that divers do not use the freedive mooring lines for decompression stops.
If the freedivers had to release their counterweight system in an emergency, there is the risk of being caught by a 60kg weight.
The upcoming freedive meets are as follows:
• 30 April
• 1 May
• 21/22 May
• 11/12 June
• 9/10 July
• 30/31 July
• 6/7 August
• 27/28 August
• 10/11 September
• 24/25 September
• 8/9 October
We’d also like to remind any divers using re-breathers that you must also use a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) throughout your dive. (However please note that yellows SMBs should only be used in emergencies.)
Thanks for your understanding.

We are currently able to offer TriDri units for the fantastic price of £49.50.
We have a demonstration unit in the NDAC Dive Shop, so why not pop in and take a look on your next visit.
Drysuits often get damp inside from:
• Perspiration

Drying the inside, particularly the boots, can be difficult and can take up to 2 weeks if soaking wet.
TriDri can dry a soaking wet boot in 2 hours.
The telescopic tube device has a small low voltage fan powered from any USB socket.
This is a really useful addition to your SCUBA kit.
TriDri is ready to use out of the box with cable, UK Mains power supply and instructions.

April 11, 2016We are really pleased to announce that the National Diving & Activity Centre (NDAC) has reached 8,000 likes on it’s Facebook Page.

We created our new Facebook page in February 2011 and it has proved a very popular way of staying in touch with everyone.
We also have a very active Twitter feed with around 2,100 followers, and of course we have our news blog with all the latest from the site.

Caroline – New Diving Attraction at the NDAC Chepstow
April 4, 2016Over 20,000 people saw our AprilFools post last week, but we’ve got some very exciting real news today for divers!
Later today we will be installing our latest underwater attraction, ‘Caroline’.
This 35 Tonne steel trawler traveled over 500 miles from Aberdeen in 2013 to its final home as an underwater diving attraction at the National Diving & Activity Centre.
We have recently been completing the final works to our latest underwater attraction, and this weekend the original prop was welded into place.
The new boat, named ‘Caroline’ is 11.33 metres long and the plan is to place her in the water at around 25m, providing a fantastic wreck diving experience.
FeedBurner Sending Digests of Old Posts
February 5, 2016Quirky Bugs with Google Feedburner
Apologies to any of our subscribers who received an email yesterday with some out of date news items from the NDAC website.
This blog uses Google Feedburner to send out our news items to subscribers, however it seems to have a glitch where it very occasionally sends out random old posts!
For anyone else having the same problem, Google Feedburner are very quiet on the subject but I think I’ve found a solution on eHow.
The issue seems to occur if you make any edits to old posts.
I believe the cause of yesterday’s posting was due to the removal of some old posts on the blog. To prevent the blog sending out old posts via Feedburner, the suggestion is as follows:
Deactivate the FeedBurner "Email Subscription" service. Log in to your FeedBurner account. Click on the feed associated with your website from the main list. Click the "Publicize" tab, and then click "Email Subscriptions" in the left navigation pane. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Deactivate" button.
To reactivate the email service, click the "Activate" button. FeedBurner will show only new posts from now on.
An occasion where ‘turning it off and on again’ might actually work!
